I don't know of any successful trader or investor that purely uses only one of TA or FA. Even staunch fundamentalist value investors like Peter Lynch cared if they were going against the trend. And even pure technicians care if they are trading a high tech or commodity or whatever (i.e they care about the fundamentals).

Reading the market is not easy. You need to have the right kind of schizophrenia; having the conviction of your beliefs while at the same time being open minded enough and paranoid enough to reverse direction on a dime.

When I predicted the downturn in SOX months ago, I wasn't just doing it based on the technicals. I also thought about all the supply and demand issues that were plausible, if not likely. The TA confirmed that fundamental view for me.

For every buyer who thinks they are going to make great returns, there has to be a seller who thinks that stock is not worth keeping, or there would not be a trade. Anyone who does not understand the other side of the trade has a major blind spot.
