re BABA and Chinese Stocks - maybe they are all speculation. I decided to sell my remaining 9988.Hk shares at a 17% loss. looking back, I should have bought Tencent for a bet on China. It has the same risk with China (albeit more assets beyond China), but is better on any qualitative factor I have checked for (leadership, gross margin trends, transparency of financial statements).

When you look at Alibaba’s metrics like gross margins and operating margins over the years, it becomes clear how much the business has been deteriorated or watered down with acquisitions (Ali media, B&M stores and many others) over time. If nothing else, this should have been a yellow flag. I was betting on the Chinese car down blowing over and that just didn’t happen, indeed it got worse. So I take my smallish loss after the rebound and move on.
