Wharfie,
China is short of power cuz the coal generators were going broke because of the cost of coal
And why do you think the cost of coal is skyrocketing? Maybe it's because they shut down their coal mining operations? Maybe they ramped down coal production too soon? Maybe they were a bit too eager to move away from coal?

That's not a far-fetched theory, by the way. Beijing also wants to clean up their air. The smog there is heinous. It makes the wildfire air here in California look pristine.
That's why there will be a lot of storage in a carbon-free society..
The storage solutions aren't cheap enough yet. Even water reservoirs are quite expensive and have a big impact on the environment. And large-scale Li-Ion isn't going to be the answer.

There are some technologies currently in development, but one of them would have to represent a breakthrough before the stage problem can be solved.

No matter what, though, you greenies will always try to put the cart before the horse. Texas became too reliant on wind energy, only to get screwed over when said windmills were not engineered for cold weather. California is experiencing blackouts thanks to PG&E, yet we're going to stress the electrical grid even more thanks to Newsom's "bold" march to a "carbon-free" future.

And here you are, trying desperately to blame the unreliability of green energy on a lack of backup fossil fuels, LOL ...
