ok, let's run some numbers/estimates:

shitty job = minimum wage...
minimum wage for 1971 = $1.60/hr or ~$3,000/year
minimum wage for 2020 = $7.25/hr or ~$14,000/year
wage increase from 1971>2021= 466% increase
dol.gov

dollar value change from 1971 to 2021...
$3000 wages in 1971 = $20,000 value in 2021 per inflation (shitty wages got shittier by $6,000)
inflation from 1971>2021 = 566% increase
in2013dollars.com

$1000 of medical care in 1971 = $16,000 of medical care in 2021 (1500% increase)
officialdata.org

so,
say a 1971 shitty job person paid $1,000 for a medical service, the cost would be 33% of the annual wage.
a 2021 shitty job person would pay $16,000 for similar medical service, but the cost would be 80% annual wage.
truly a shitty deal.

as for 'health insurance 50 years ago', health insurance has changed a great deal over that 50 year
period. health insurance sector 'progression' to deductibles and copays, along with their interference in
medical decision-making reduces the value of health insurance, imo.

seems like a 'data-driven' profit game to me. bwdik
