I have used Thinkpads exclusively since they came out (way back in the '90's!), so I'll throw in my two cents.
IMO back when IBM made them they were of better quality and the keyboards were even nicer than the ones out today, that said the machines are still fine.
I bought an E series 14" thin and light a couple months back, it has an AMD Ryzen 5 series processor, 16GB of ram, and a 512GB SSD, along with wifi 6. I have read some performance tests of the Ryzen 5, and in many respects it is as fast as some of the Intel Core I7 chips. I don't use it for trading although I do have my trading suite loaded on it in case of an emergency, I use a quad monitor Dell workstation as I simply feel comfortable seeing more data. The Thinkpad feels plenty quick to me though. As far as graphics, I have read the AMD chips are very good, however with an Intel equipped Thinkpad you can order a discrete Nvidia graphics solution, which is probably faster.
I also have a version of the machine Sun Tzu uses, but it is an 'extreme' Thinkpad X1, the key with that box is that it actually lets you run up to four monitors off the laptop, again perfect for trading. More expensive than the E series one I just got, I paid $688 for that one, although I get 10% off using an IBM 'friends and family' Lenovo website.
If interested, you can also actually buy desktops that are smaller than laptops these days, I am going to get one of these for my wife shortly. This machine is roughly 7" by 7", very portable, and can be equipped with quad monitor Nvidia graphics. This one weighs 2.91 pounds.
