Miraje, "legalization" and "decriminalization" of marijuana was one gigantic hoax.

The politicians who supported it did NOT do so on the basis of libertarianism. Nor do they believe in deregulation.

Instead, they believed in MORE regulation. They wanted tax dollars. They wanted control over the marijuana industry.

So they pass "decriminalization" in hopes that fewer people would end up breaking the law.

But then go figure. Regulated businesses have to pay tax. They have to follow rules of "safety." They have to report all of their activity to government officials, including all of their revenue and their sources of funding (which often get a bit shady because legit banks still don't want anything to do with the cannibis industry.)

So what do most dispensaries do? They ignore the law. They sell under the table. They grow weed illegally.

Now it's MUCH more profitable to sell illegal weed than ever before. And now state and local governments have even less power than ever before to enforce rules and regulations.

What are they going to do? Call SWAT? The DEA? Bring in the Armored Personnel Crushers and go after the new "drug cartels"?

What a giant FUBAR "decriminalization" turned out to be.
