Why do i get more depressed when i read your reads, And then i pepp-up thinking about gold Even as gold is not exactly ‘performing’ brilliant?
I expect first delivery of ordered 2022 panda gold coins ~15 November 2021.
I always and only buy Pandas at spot + ~3.5% bullion pricing, and hodl forever, the ultimate diamond hand.
I bought every year since first issuance (1982), all designs, in gold, and for those years featuring the less usual, platinum, and the unusual, palladium, and in one single instance, a rare mistake, a platinum Panda marked with a ‘Au’ symbol - mega rare.
I am enthusiastic, because irrespective of ‘authorised’ mintage, the actual mintage for each year in truth depends. If gold not popular for the year, panda actual mintage (never mind authorised number) go extremely low compared to the more usual bullion coins of USA, Canada, Australia and S Africa.
The panda coins’ designs change every year, and the actual mintage goldbarsworldwide.com (1-oz / 30gm coins) can be very low and for some years just ~30K (2000 & 2002), the coins minted during years when gold is unpopular zoom up the most in numismatic worth soon after the year passes.
For example, 2000 coin is unobtainium here pandaamerica.com and here apmex.com

Peter Anthony: The 2000 100 Yuan 1 oz. Mirrored gold Panda is a key coin in the Panda series. This year is one of the most sought-after in the Panda set and every denomination sells for a significant premium. Like the 1998 and 1999 Pandas the 2000 was caught in the wake of the Asian financial crisis. Demand for gold Pandas plummeted and many are reported to have been melted. In addition there were cross-currents unique to this year as many coins were bought by non-collectors as keepsakes of the turn of the millennium. Now, with only one coin available listed for $8,686 picclick.com
I checked my inventory log, and I have a whole lot, because 2000 was a very good year for me as logged on these SI threads (SoftBank thread :0)
2002 is also unobtainium at the most proper site for pandas pandaamerica.com and at the alternative site apmex.com
Over on EBay ebay.com can get @ $4,000 for graded coins (grading does not cost much)
I had sometime ago done a cursory valuation and my worth-weighted gold-panda hoard is valued at about 2X gold content, all bought at normal bullion cost during whichever year.
About 1/2 of my gold hoarding are in the form of Pandas. If I only liked the gold pandas for the gold, i would sell the pandas and buy equal number of other bullions, and put the left over proceeds to crypto, so as to get more pandas as spot going forward. |
