A consortium of companies is developing a digital wireless credit card verification system that will piggyback on a satelite system. I found this bit of news thru a press release by Micronet Wireless (NOIZ). I called the company, but they would not diclose the customers they are supplying parts to for use in the system. The fact that these guys are developing this capability into the satelite and ground network system indicates their belief that a large market opportunity exists. It looks to me that several heavy hitter competitors will soon be on the scene. Maybe this competition will be good for US Wireless if it spurs acceptance of the concept. However, if USWDA doesn't get on the ball and sign up more major telcos, they could be left in the dust of heavily financed competitors with 5 or 10 year plans for breakeven.
