news.......... Dear Chess Friends, GM Alex Yermolinsky pointed out to me that on FIDE's www site, chess planet, the following interview with FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was posted. Kirsan has dropped a bombshell. He states that the 1998 FIDE Championship will be held in December in ... Las Vegas!! It will be a 5 million dollar knockout event and is sure to attract a huge amount of media interest. If he is successful this will be a tremendous boom for chess in the U.S.. As I find out more details I'll keep you all posted. We do live in interesting times! Yasser Seirawan
