VALE: today’s upmove is just a counter-trend rally in a high-beta stock. Iron ore prices continue to fall, now below 90$. tradingeconomics.com China is going to restrict coal use for heavy industry (and therefore iron ore consumption) till after the Olympics. Longer if energy supplies remain tight.

Iron ore prices are now below their average price over the last 10 years, but the downtrend continues. Expectations for VALE’s profits and dividends in 2022 are far too high. I expect them to pay a $0.50 dividend in 2022, which is going to seriously disappoint many current investors. At a $10 stock price, that is still a 5% yield, but expectations are much higher.
