Yes, Holly, you are fortunate that you did not try hard drugs!! I understand that rock cocaine is very hard to come back from, in particular, although I have heard, anecdotally speaking, that some people have an easier time kicking heroin than cigarettes!!
It is nice that you had 'diplomatic immunity' driving through Pomona. I guess those mean guys depend on the fine and fast services of a competent emergency medical staff to put them back together again when the Uzis mean business. Unfortunately, when I went to high school, Diamond Bar High School did not yet exist, so we all got bussed to Ganesha. While the kids from Diamond Bar and Ganesha Hills were in honors classes, the rest of the student population was drawn from pretty bad, desperate Pomona neighborhoods. I bet my classmates are the parents and grandparents of the street dealers out there on Holt right now. A key survival skill in high school was a strong bladder--it was very dangerous to go to the bathroom at school, because you might get knifed. I know this sounds alarmist, but the campus crime rate was pretty high.
Anyway, you were very lucky at least not to have attended high school in Pomona!! Working there is plenty bad enough, and Miss Penni really should get involved in this wonderful discussion and send you a merit badge of some sort! |
