Paul, There are a lot of companies that will leak out news to money managers (who, despite this advantage, still have problems beating the indexes) prior to the general press release.

While I think this is also a major problem, I'm really focusing one just the fact that public earnings warnings should be outlawed, because they are catching investors (both small and large investors) off-guard.

I mean, when the company says that the earnings release will be on, say, October 20, I don't want to have to worry about a preannouncement coming on October 1.

What's the point? The stock is going to get hit either way. Why do companies see fit to surprise us?
