In this respect MAO was right but forgot to mention not to favor birth of boys compared to girls, such selection should be punished with hard work. As a result of Chinese people greed, China has over 20 or 30 million more males that cannot find a bride which is huge social problem.

Why for Chinese boys where preferred? - to help working the fields etc.,
