Since you only live once, but a good mechanical watch can last several human lives, I put myself on the list at local AD for a new 36 mm Rolex Explorer 1. By the time I die, my son will appreciate what a wonderful piece of mechanical engineering and manufacture it is. With luck, it should outlast him.

And of course, the steel model. The one with the yellow stuff is, in my view, an abomination.

Very happy that the Explorer 1 went back to a 36 mm case. The 39 mm case did nothing for me.

Had a chance at a reasonably priced 1061 once, about 15 or so years ago. Regrettably, I did not pounce.

Tired of chasing things. It's like NVDA stock, you either have it or you may be out of luck.

I can see how watches can become an obsession. Some are stunningly beautiful, some are mechanical wonders, but the good ones fit art, engineering, fine manufacturing, and creative genius into a small useful case. And, if cards are played correctly, great investments. What isn't there to like about this obsession?
