Eric-
We use the S&P futures for trading all stocks, though some are more sensitive. The bigger drug stocks seem to follow pretty close, although I'm sure there is increased volatility lately with all of the recent merger news. It's helpful to keep a tick chart with trendlines to give you a picture of which way the market may be headed. The futures are thought to be a leading indicator, so we also keep up a tick chart of the dow to look for divergences, such as the futures making higher highs and the dow making lower highs, we feel the market is going up. Hope this helps.
