RFF,

The MVL technology from Paradyne is going to be an awesome product.

One correction, the first release of the MVL modems will have an ethernet interface, but only for one host machine/device. You won't be able to hang a network off of one modem at the CPE side. As for the head-end, this thing will scale tremendously since the power consumption has come waaaayyyyy down!

But you can have up to eight of these modems in your house, with each one having one host/device behind it. The telco's love this, since they can scale their service offerings.

The target cost to the Telco's is around $300 for the head-end gear as well as the remote modem!

Installation is also something they have improved upon. One of the most costly parts of deployment for the Telco's is having to "roll" a truck out to the end-users house for installation, they have done much work to improve upon this.

I like when people talk about xDSL service offerings being proprietary, hell, they all are proprietary!

Most CAP DSL offerings don't talk to other CAP equipment, and since DMT has over 5 chip manufacturers, they don't talk to each other yet!
