Like I said, if I had been on that jury, I would not have convicted him of murder. If the prosecution had charged him illegal possession, crossing the state line, reckless endangerment, etc. Then I'd probably would have voted to convict on all counts.

The US courts are certainly unfair. Statistics show that blacks get much harsher sentences for the same crimes as the whites do. The police routinely ride home free what other citizens would spend years in prison for. And there is codified racism in the US criminal code...or as an old saying goes, the law equally forbids the rich and the poor from sleeping under a bridge.

So I am not against fixing the system. I am not even against sending a message when it is called for. However, the prosecution has to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. A murder charge was way above overreach in this case.
