Why I bought Qualcomm last week (Bottom line)

Qualcomm is a fast growing AI & Robotics play with a P/E ratio of only 16. NVIDIA is a fast growing AI & Robotics play with a nosebleed P/E ratio of 60.

NVIDIA continues to be my top AI & Robotics play despite its rich valuation. However, I have diversified my AI &Robotics investments with plays with varying specialties and P/E ratios, as summarized below, it n order of preference:

1. NVIDIA - dominant in legacy business of gaming graphics chipsets, world leader in AI & Robotics chips and software;

2. Google - dominant in legacy business of search engine:
  • uses AI in search engine and YouTube;
  • world leader in AI & Robotics with AI & Robotics research subsidiary DeepMind;
  • world leading autonomous vehicle subsidiary Waymo;
  • new robotics software subsidiary Intrinsic;
  • new drug discovery subsidiary using DeepMind’s revolutionary protein folding AI;
  • developed ASIC AI TPU chip used in Tensor SOC in Pixel 6 smart phone.

3. AMD - eating Intel’s lunch in PC CPUs and Data Center and Supercomputer HPC CPUs. Competing successfully with NVIDIA in gaming GPUs and Data Center HPC GPUs. Will see substantially increase its AI & Robotics capabilities with the soon-to-be-completed acquisition capabilities of Xilinx.

4. Qualcomm - dominant and layer in legacy business of smartphone AI chips. Major player in low-power AI chips for Robotics and Internet of Things (IoT). Major player in autonomous driving AI chips. Fast growing yet low P/E value play.

5. Baidu - Dominant in legacy business of Chinese search engine. World leader in autonomous vehicles via satellite subsidiary Apollo. $2 billion AI chip subsidiary Kunlun. Conversational and drug discovery AI. Very low P/E due to concerns about regulatory issues with U.S. and China which IMHO are overblown.

6. C3.ai - Enterprise AI startup founded by legendary tech billionaire Tom Siebel which went public a year ago. Very speculative. Not yet profitable. Being acquired by institutions - see linked post: Message 33584542

7. AI & Robotics ETF IRBO. Diversified portfolio of 100 equally weighted plays.

Cheers,
Frank
