You were 14 years ahead of me.

During zero section (august) I worked at the company garage. They gave me shop towels to check the oil and terry cloth towels with a can of GM glass cleaner to make sure the windshield was sparkling clean and the dash had no dust on it.

While there, I always worked up to the top floor of the garage, where the best metal men in the world custom leaded the show cars that did the national circuit. They were truly the best of the best. They were my role models of excellence, as an 18 year old they were what I admired as rare top shelf skills.

I still remember that the editor of "Corvette News" Joe Pike, always had two big block corvette demos (brass hats they were called then). I made sure Joe's vettes were sparkling clean. He always had a CB radio, and he had his call letters on the then back removable rear window: KHH1175.

Ah the wonderful memories of a poor kid who had no worries and great dreams!

I will forever be grateful for GM, and the wonderful opportunity they extended to me!

If each American extended to a poor kid trying to make his life better, an opportunity for that kid to better themselves (if willing to work), our country would be unbeatable.

I'm still trying to pay back my appreciation!

God Bless America!

Bob
