Make sure the chain is sharp and tightened correctly. Let the saw cut, don't push it. If it's making fine dust instead of shavings, something is wrong and your chain is going to start cooking so stop.
Hopefully it's a live tree. Green cuts easier than old oak that's been dead a while. The old oak boards on my antique barn are as hard as rock. I had to predrill the nail holes when I was restoring it. I leave my old dead oaks in the woods for wildlife nests, food for woodpeckers etc. When they finally fall, I have a heck of a time cutting them up. Just have to go slow and take breaks to let the chain cool down and file the cutters.
I don't do it as you know but you should wear safety glasses and hearing protection. I just sweat too much so after a while I can't see anymore and the hearing clamshells slide when I'm ramming stuff into the chipper.
You don't want to see how I get hung trees down like I had today. LOL I probably get 1:10 like that. Last week, I had a 18" diamet 80 foot tall tree free hanging from a vine about the diameter of your pinkie. I thought I'd never get it down.
