>YURI is not in a position to compete with Cisco, Ascend, NN, NEC, and maybe FORE.<
Well, let's see. Cisco is certainly a concern, but the 3800 is nothing short of an disaster for them so far. As far as I know, neither Ascend nor Fore have products in this space (ATM access muxes), and I don't know about NEC. From your list that leaves NN, who are certainly here with both the 36130 and the new 36140 plus whatever comes out of the joint acquisition of Radnet (with Seimens).
The people you left out who are the greater threats, IMHO, are 3Com with the products from the OnStream acquisition, Nortel, ADC/Kentrox, Xylan (no reason you can't use the Omniswitch in some of these applications) and a host of venture-backed start-ups (look at Mariposa, who won best of show at last falls NetWorld/InterOp), plus a trailing group of weak players like GDC/Sahara and Digital Link. In short, expect a ton of competitive products and a lot of price competition in this space soon. |
