I missed that they had water. Yes, the dog was strange but I have seen pets get heat stroke and he nay have been the last to go. I actually find the heat less oppressive with no humidity but you loss moisture a lot faster. A friend asked me to do a ride in Death Valley but I declined. My roommate in the crossing had to ride in the van a lot in the desert. A lot of people did. I hammered. 117 miles and beat everyone in by an hour (Wickenburg). I got harassed there when I wore a pink shirt. On the really hard days, I ride fast especially when it is cool in the am. I also had on a hat like the French foreign legion (under helmet so the flap covered my neck and also leg coolers and arm coolers. You are supposed to pour water on the, periodically. Also two large water bottles and a camel back.

We spent 3 days in the Mojave and then some time in the Chihuahuan desert. We had a sag stop at the place where they filmed the scene from No Country for Old Men - the gas station. "Call it"

The first day in the desert I didn't wear leg coolers and it felt like my legs were baking literally.
