Re: CONDITION OF THE MARKET ...

The headline in a Barron's article today:

Forget Value Versus Growth. Pick Quality Stocks Instead.

Growth has outperformed value for most of the past decade but from September 2020 to mid-March 2021 value outperformed growth. VOOV (value) gained 28% in that time frame and the Nasdaq 100 just 18%. Based on the current economic environment, value can not continue to outpace growth like that and that only happens when the market is in a mid-cycle stage when economic growth slows after an initial burst of post-recession demand.

Nicolas Colas co-founder of Data Trek suggests it's time to stop investing around growth or value themes as there won't be much of a difference between value and growth performance going forward.

Mike Wilson, chief U.S. equity strategist at Morgan Stanley says what matters now is stock picking.

That's right, those dreaded words ... stock picking.

He goes on to say that stock picking will be key to one's success more so than ever.

The theme going forward is Quality and by quality I mean a strong balance sheet, strong earnings quality, strong cash flow quality and pricing power.

It is this change in the condition of the market that I had already recognized and it's why for the first time in a long time you've seen me provide ratings for Earnings Quality, Cash Flow Quality, Operating Efficiency and Balance Sheet Quality.

I am also looking for companies that have outperformed the market or their benchmark in the 1, 3, 5 and 10 year time frames.

Stock picking requires buying strength and I believe some of you have heard me pounding the table on that theme.
