The article you site is very interesting. For me, the best thing about it is a critique and/or summation of the ancient Gods of the Middle East (including Yahweh) & their perceived weaknesses, etc. The author mentions the more serious philosophical concerns such as those 'enlivened by Plato'. Interestingly, Plato's 'metaphysics' argues that the essence of GOD must be all POTENCY ( becoming or expansion ) of his essence in very basic layman's terms. However, his pupil, Aristotle, in his Cosmology & Metaphysics posits quite the opposite; God must be all ACT, there is no potency or the 'UNMOVED MOVER' would indeed, have limitations in having to 'grow' so-to-speak and acquire & experience new abilities & things--'potency'.
Though the article is, indeed, interesting in how it relates to the various GODS & more importantly, perhaps, how their being was perceived it cannot BY ANY MEANS be regarded as more than a compendium of sorts of ancient fairytales, hopes & wishes posited by a variety of ancient peoples. If any GOD or Supreme Being really exists, he would not be much use to us if he needed a wheelchair and rest!
Perhaps, the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (forgive the possible mis-spelling) had an idea that the writer of that article never thought to add-----'THERE IS A SUPREME BEING BUT HE GOT BORED/LOST INTEREST IN US AND WENT AWAY'! |
