RE: CSCO

I wanted to touch on this because there’s been some discussion lately about weather it’s a good holding going forward. As someone who holds CSCO, I wanted to first thank those who tabled their thoughts on CSCO and hope they’ll continue to do so going forward. This is part of the value of belonging to a fine group such as this.

Most of the discussion has centered around the dividend and while I’m in agreement that the CSCO dividend growth has been disappointing the last few years, I think patient shareholders may be rewarded. The company is midway through a transformation from who it was to who it will be.

The discussion had me take a look at the research reports available to see what the different opinions of the research analysts had to offer. The consensus was overwhelmingly bullish. Argus even had me chuckle a little with their statement “slightly less generous-than-anticipated dividend hike”. I wonder if the BOD will take that into consideration when determining the next raise.

Like JVince says, I’m no word smith or math wizard but this company has significantly reduced their debt & share count over the last four years. I’m guessing their going to make another acquisition or two in the not to distant future to continue to build themselves into who they want to become so I’m expecting another mediocre raise in February.

What I do find concerning (more curious then concerning I guess) is that the revenues and EPS seem to have been range bound for quite a while it seems. Not sure what to make of that. Payout ratio rising slightly over the years as well, as to be expected.

I know most will wait for the next dividend announcement before making any decisions and those decisions will be based on the raise and that’s cool cause their time frame and goals may be different than mine. But I’d like to continue to hear the thoughts holding or replacing CSCO as we get closer to that time.
