I don't think that's right. Your party, which I would call the universal, subsumes every individual under its banner. Individuals have a right to vote their conscience. Moreover, there are different degrees of liberal, conservative and progressive. One of the things I dislike immensely about Trump is that he tried ( and is still trying) to get all members of his Party to conform to what he wants. We are composed of 50 States, which have different senses and degrees of conservatism and liberalism. I don't want any Party to force individuals to vote one way. It is nice to have bipartisanship, identity in difference.
