IBM's goal over the next three years is to combine the logic advances in
the gigahertz processor and a 0.18- or 0.15-micron process with copper
wiring technology, to create a balanced system design for servers and
workstations. IBM also is working on a new DRAM design that Dean said
boasts "an order-of-magnitude improvement on first latency," along with
packaging that uses Teflon and other materials for the very large
memory-module configurations required in servers.
