As a skier, you'd be disappointed just about anywhere in Canada west of Ontario right now. There is plenty of snow, but exactly six months after the heat dome broke the all-time high temperature ever recorded in Canada, there are cold weather-related warnings all across western Canada, and most ski hills are closed as a result. Fortunately it is only daily low temperature records rather than all time that are being broken by the dozens

It was down to 12C in my bedroom when I got up this morning, thanks to two uninsulated walls facing the outside, one exposed to the north wind. I don't mind it that much -- I have good bedding and have camped outside in subzero temps, and actually prefer a cold bedroom -- but even in my main living area it is pretty damn cold, enough that I can feel the blood leaving my fingers as I type. I am now going to go bake some muffins to warm up my fingers and the apartment.

Season's Greetings to all! I wonder if John is venturing out on his cross country skis in this frigidity, which is centred in southern Alberta.
