"So how would you improve the Mac OS?"

Hmmmm let's see....

Many of the users I support (both Windows and Mac) do not know more than 20 percent of what their OS can do. Some of the PC users don't even know how to add a printer in Windows 95. If it takes more than three steps, their baffled!

Perhaps a Mac-lite version that consolidates the most used features in a small, tight, fast OS that runs on both the old Macs and PPCs.

Leave multi-threading to the Mac-Pro OS. Most of my users think linear. Sure they have Phd.s, but some of them cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Too busy thinking deep thoughts I guess.

My fear is in the race to add features, we are moving away from what made the Mac successful in the first place... the simplicity of the GUI.

OS 8 is getting as cluttered as Windows95 and NT. The average user cannot cope.

How about this? A system feature that automatically puts newly created files into a Work folder without any user intervention. You'd be suprised how many calls I get from people who don't know how to search for a file or misplace them on the had drive. I've found word processing document in peoples extensions folders. An on Windows .dll files are all over the place!

It should be a crime to clutter your desktop with documents and icons!

Think Star Trek. Can you imagine Captain Kirk saying "Spock, I can't find where I filed my Captain's Log!" or seeing an Enterprise computer terminal with icons all over the desktop? Do they even have a desktop? This is where we should be going.

Think Simple
