I suppose this could be solved by having a designation for each board on the sort of discussion the moderator is looking for. A buyer beware. For example, if you decide to venture an opinion in a bar, you are an idiot if you don't expect some drunk guy to not just say something stupid, but also say it loud and offensively stupid.

Recall that SI differs from other sites in that it allows unlimited boards for the same stock, topic, etc. Therefore, the onus should really be on the moderator of said board to police it in a way the befits him/her (not poor SI Ron). It would be nice to also allow a moderator to chose some level of expectation, such as 0 for "anything goes" to 5 for whatever the opposite of anything goes is. Anyone who wants to avoid "0" boards would be able to filter out such content in their profile.
