<<so guessing pond is big ‘enough’ >>

Just looking at that reservoir. It is a nice park, and the reservoir has a biggish island in it.

Not sure about those Hong Kong koi. Maybe some of the big shots do not think 273 million cubic meters of water is enough space ? :-)

There are tiny trout fish in the small dam headwater used for the hydro generator here. They survive the storms and flood waters OK, and don't get washed downstream. They are amazing at camouflage. They swim in the current at exactly the same speed as the water, and look just like a static feature, like a sand bar. Until they see something to eat. Perhaps the birds of prey circling above have something to do with that?

If I stamp on the bank, I can sometimes shoo them off, and if I wait about five minutes they sneak back, that is the only time making them easily visible, moving against the the background, then they freeze motionless into the backgound again. Smart fish. I guess they have good instructors, the eagle eyed ones :-)
