Jack, this has long been an enigma to me also...why doesn't *some* large multi-national manufacturing company BUY a 51% majority of TAVA and have all that expertise for themselves ? Geez...seems to me there could be no better way to *buy* immediate competency, at a steal of a price, and have no worries. IS managers could go back to drinking coffee and eating doughnuts...let the "TAVA department of Corporation "X"" handle it all... I hate to wave a US flag around this board, but I cringe to think of this scenario as a taxpayer (love the idea as a shareholder though)....FAA, US Railway system, utility plants, strategic military defense systems, et al, would be in a serious pinch if TAVA went into private hands...which would adversely impact us, the taxpayer, for our government's neglect, failure to listen to overwhelming and verifiable experts, and general apathy for things they don't understand (or have an approved budget for).
Such an absorption of this one company into private hands would sure put the rest of the world outside the US in worse shape with respect to the niche issue of embedded systems than ever before... no ? Anyone ever wonder where old, obsolete (by US medical standards) medical/capital equipment goes ? How about obsolete but still useful (and revenue gaining) military hardware ? Outdated industrial-floor equipment ? Majority of it migrates to 3rd world countries I suspect. Who is examining this Y2K and embedded system issues internationally ? I don't know...do you ?
Instead...we see massive classified ads in major papers throughout the US searching for competent engineering talent...the advertising budget alone would buy half of TAVA of some of these multinational Fortune 50s it seems (LOL).
Just thinking out loud. Your comment caused me to wonder myself...GM spins out EDS for billions a year or two back...seems to me that BUYING TAVA for a fraction of that would serve GM well. One example.
