Cruz's mistake was not that he said it.

It was that he didn’t understand the origin of the Jan 6 riot , which now appears to have been instigated by congressional Democrats, clearly originating with Pelosi. And he had no apparent knowledge of who committed the borderline acts. The terrorism was on Pelosi, of course, with the order to kill an innocent person (No way cops would have killed an innocent women without Pelosi's approval, and Pelosi would have been the only person to end it without a significant investigation of the murder).
