The new barbarian?
The stateless aristorcracy, without a conscience, yes I like that, some are former hungarians, others former americans, maybe some indians too.
Do not be so harsh on Sankar, his defense of Indian poverty to some hindu mentaliy etc is b s .Part of it is the price we paid for trying to go it alone, self reliance and wanting a broad based economy , social justice and all that. But, while India is poor because we do not have shelter, sanitation roads etc, we are not poor because we do not consume the US RDA of animal fat, coke, gasoline, garage space, sq feet of carpet, # of pets owned.
The point is that the west through its domination of the media moulds the planet's perception of what is wealth. A closer to home example is that one can participate in the US economy if you lived in Missisippi and drove a yugo just as much as from CA in a BMW. Most of CA's wealth in this case is due to emphasis on incremental, and minute differences, yugo = $2500, BMW = $55000, shack = $25000, Condo = $450000.
So the difference between India and the US based on a cursory look at per capita income is meaningless. a $75 k american is at best 2 to 3 times richer than a middle class Indian, yet continues to believe and expects every one to believe that he is 25 times richer and stronger.
Do not look at the exchange rate, a rate of 38 RS to the USD basically says that 'look we do not make world class products yet, so take em away at this rate',(current acct.) . Do not expect to buy up the place at Rs. 38 to the dollar. which is why it is not convertible at that price. (capital acct.)
