I won't affect people who already took out fixed rate mortgages but it will affect consumers who may have to rethink financing new purchases. there is a difference between finance a $75000 car or $800,000 home at 3 % or 9%. that is really the mechanism by which raising interest rates slows down inflation. if people have to pay 2.5% for a mortgage or 4% for a mortgage will not matter too much.
