Spank, your post woke me up...Klammer downhill win was, IMO, the single greatest performance in history of sports. I was thrilled to talk with the Franzster at a celebrity golf deal a few years ago...v. friendly guy. He and Andy Mill seemed pleased that my girlfriend and I knew who they were (well, hell, what did they expect...neither one of them ever spent a single minute in the NFL or NBA!). In '93, my daughter and I hiked UP the olympic downhill course when we were staying in Igls. Our trip took a lot longer than Klammer's... probably all those damn cows cutting off the preferred up-hill line.

P.S., re. the comments on Beethoven's 9th: of course the TV people screwed it up...that's why they call them TV people. BTW, did anyone notice that EVERYONE in stands was singing the chorus? The Ode' enjoys an almost unofficial national song status in Japan...way cool, IMO. I logged four Tokyo years in 80s and loved every minute. Gombahtay IOM! (v. phonetic, so no spelling lessons please).
