This seems to run counter to the known history of virus mutation. Yes we will see variations but how many will be able to out compete Omicron? It is a very virulent disease. Other variants will have to be just as contagious or more so. And they will have to drag along deadly aspects in their genome. Seems unlikely that any such variant will be able to survive.

Not to say it won't happen. The 1916 Spanish Flu was a more virulent strain that out competed other flu strains, but these occurrences are rare in endemic human diseases.

Seems to me its more hot air in the face of a fading disease cycle. Yes the Morgue Motels (hospitals) will continue to squeeze out the deaths from an otherwise survivable disease, but even with rigged stats this pandemic has a very short time horizon.
