Interesting that you mentioned the BeOS.

I thought it would die after the NeXT/Apple deal, but now, I am considering it for my next computer.

My setup would consist of my 8500/150 for general use, surfing etc. and a newer powerful machine for specific uses. Rendering, 3D. The BeOS is lean and made specifically for multimedia. The BeOS has some potential to take away Apple market share.

Ironically, Bill made this statement:

He's right. Mac newbie's are driven insane by EXTENSIONS. Stupidly, Mac has made little effort to clarify what they do and how to manage them. It wouldn't be too very hard for Apple to have an information page listing all the extensions out there. Or perhaps developing standard sets for the Extension Manager.
