‘Transitory’, doubtless, maybe, perhaps
Am speechless, to think this same is rippling across the virus-weakened economy

Hi Guys: Just to show you the kind of craziness we are facing ….. We were quote USD 8K to air ship tooling form China back in October. Now that we must ship before CNY we are told the actual cost will be USD 24,000. …. If the tooling does not go out before CNY we may lose a month of production which will cost us much more. J, shall we charter a plan and ship goods from China to USA ,-)). This sounds like a very lucrative business. M From: M

Hi D:
This is crazy! 24K just for shipping tooling from China. Please give me weight, dimensions, pick up address and expected ready date.
Then give me 36 hours to see if I can find a better offer.
We cannot lose any time, so I just want a day to see if I can arrange something better. If not then we go with this.

Hi M, Based on what B said in the attached email, the estimated additional cost is ~$20k CDN ($16k USD). He communicated that the recent shipping costs are nearly 2x the costs he had previously shared with us in the fall. For your reference, the tooling POs already include a $1,000 CDN credit for sea freight. B previously communicated to A and myself that he would invoice for the additional costs to air ship. His latest estimate is $24k CDN (-$4k in credit that you’ve already paid as part of the tooling POs = an additional $20k CDN cost.) I shared these cost increases with our mechanical commodity manager (who manages relationships with M). His response was “we’re seeing logistical nightmares all around”. Let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks, D Design Engineer- Mechanical C Technologies |
