Governor DeSantis forced me to believe that politicians do not necessarily have be dumb a$$es. In the beginning, he went along with the lockdowns - but got rid of them very soon. The beaches and parks were closed, maybe, for a week or two. At some point, I think in the summer months of 2020, he gathered some outstanding physicians and epidemiologists to help him understand CoViD - the same ones who later published the Barrington Declaration.

He worked hard - and developed a very decent understanding of the virus and it’s epidemiology. That is possible - I know other non-physicians who did the same. Having done his homework, he issued an order - no lockdowns starting on October 2, 2020. No school closings, all businesses fully open, no mask mandates. Counties and local governments were ordered NOT to have any lockdowns or mandates.

Through the rest of the epidemic, Florida remained the Land of the Free. Case numbers, hospitalizations and fatalities remained more or less in line with the rest of the nation. The economy is doing fine.
