SCIMITAR ANNOUNCES SENIOR APPOINTMENTS

CALGARY, Feb. 06 /CNW/ - Mr. Mark R. Smith, Managing Director and Chief
Executive Officer of Scimitar Hydrocarbons Corporation (ASE: SIY) is pleased
to announce the following senior appointments.

Mr. Peter A. Lubey, P.Eng., is appointed Director, Exploitation
Engineering. Mr. Lubey has over 14 years experience with several Canadian oil
and gas producers, primarily in exploitation/reservoir engineering and
production operations, including thermal heavy oil development. Mr. Lubey's
initial focus will be on the development of primary and thermal production
from Scimitar's Issaran heavy oil project in Egypt, together with assessment
of other exploitation projects currently under consideration.

Mr. Jeffrey K. Brookman, B.A.Sc., MBA, is appointed Director,
Geosciences. Mr. Brookman has nearly two decades of experience in the
international oil industry, including geological and management positions with
international majors, national oil companies, and strategy consulting firms.
Mr. Brookman will be applying his broad knowledge of the Middle East and
Africa to rapidly progress Scimitar's existing projects in the region and to
identify and develop additional opportunities including those related to
current projects in the United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Mohamed M. Assem, M.Sc., is appointed Petroleum Engineer. Mr.
Assem's nearly two decades of Canadian and international experience covers a
full range of petroleum engineering disciplines, including heavy oil
production. Mr. Assem's Initial assignment will be to establish Scimitar's
Egypt operations at the Issaran heavy oil project.

Headquartered in Calgary, Canada, Scimitar's current projects include a
heavy oil development in Egypt, gas and liquids exploration and exploitation
in the United Arab Emirate of Ajman, gas exploration in Mozambique, petroleum
product marketing in eastern Africa and exploration in western Canada.
