A Zip sales story:

Within the last 2 weeks I have witnessed the purchase of 6 zip drives among my acquaintances! Purchase decisions were all governed by the same factor. COMPATIBILITY.

I just completed my company web site. My wife is a software engineer
who's employer has a direct line to my web host so it is much faster to publish and update from her work station. They have a zip drive so I bought one to transfer my work to her work station. She has a really nice scanner at work so she scans my portfolio photos and sneaker zips them home for me.

She also teaches a networking class at UWF as part of a contract with her employer. The university gave 3 internal zips to her employer so they could transfer work from contractor to customer. Now that's pull!
The University gave them zips to make them more efficient.

My wife's boss and a coworker bought a zip last week so they could take work home.

I have not spoken with the individuals involved but I know that they are all experienced computer professionals. I believe I am witnessing an advertising effect. All of these people have known about zip for quite a while and have used them at work yet suddenly a spurt of purchasing activity. Could this have been prompted by the advertising?

One thing is compelling in this story. Zip is standard so there was really no other choice at any price. I have no doubt that this little story is multiplying across the county, Europe, and soon in Asia.

Les (feelin' good about the upside)
