My entirely unscientific sense and dim memory of these things is that we are very close to a bottom (barring war in Eastern Europe and China taking advantage of that to tighten the screws on Taiwan of course). Another marker that I have found useful is here, Les H's News Links thread, which he very generously updates every trading day:

Look at the 65 day highs and lows of the "Overall Database"--single figures either way is uncommon and marks a top or a bottom. Likewise, looking at the bottom of the file, the "Buy/Sell" signals are always fluctuating and when they get to severely overbought or oversold conditions, they will read in the 90s, usually in the upper 90s and sometimes all of them will be 99--that will be a bottom or a top, depending on which column is in the 90s. It isn't a perfect timer, but I think it is pretty close--the market should turn up or down within a few days. We are very close to a "buy" now.
