Today is John Moses Browning’s 167th birthday. Although widely known for developing the M1911 (the most American pistol in existence), his list of accomplishments is a mile long. Learn more about the legendary gunsmith today!
And the M2 BMG (Browning Machine Gun) which is the oldest weapon devised by him that is still in production today.

The only change in the past in the past 100 years was just made recently and designated M2A1. The change is minor and only allowed for by modern machining technology. The barrel was redesigned to allow for quick change and to eliminate the need to set head space and timing to facilitate the weapon being quickly introduced into the fight.

This goes to the genius of the man to design a weapon that needed 90+ years of computer and weapons engineering technology to come up with just a minor tweak to the original design.

Simply amazing.

The M2 has probably saved more American lives and been the deciding factor in more battles than any weapon system ever because of its integration in every service and ability to be carried by a team of Soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, and ships.

It is one of those unique American inventions that combined with ingenuity (ie. even a sniper weapon by Carlos Haithcock and WWII AA designs) that can't be matched or overcome by the enemy.
