I'm pretty relaxed through all of this. Helps to have a reduced-beta portfolio -- the S&P500 is down 7.7% YTD as of Friday, our brokerage retirement accounts (which are more or less fully invested in equities) are down 5.1%.

  • I'm not worried about any of the quality companies that I own disappearing, or going bankrupt, or even being forced into costly capital raises. They are all financially strong businesses with more than enough flexibility to make it through any environment.
  • I'm not worried about dividend cuts. If the SHTF then I'll probably see a few, but not so many as to actually endanger the dividend stream. Two or three dividend cuts in a 40-stock portfolio might not even be enough to prevent the overall income stream from growing year-over-year.
  • I'm not worried about the share prices falling. We will likely slowly put fresh cash back into the market, but definitely have no need to sell anything any time soon. It doesn't matter to me whether the market goes up or down this week, it only matters where things stand a decade from now.
