A large NATO army in Ukraine might be considered a threat. The much more likely low level deployment like in the one in the Baltics (whether in the Baltics or in Ukraine) not so much.
The Baltics are already NATO members. Even a limited deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine would be like being a little bit pregnant. A done deal. The reason Russia is going through this entire drama of force buildup and ultimatums is that such an outcome to them would be unacceptable.

It should be unacceptable to us as well. Rendering them indefensible by conventional means makes them dangerous.

(Edit - Brzezinski was a smart guy, but he let his tribal hatreds get the better of him. And we are letting him get the better of us)
