Could be they were trying to create a modified virus, less virulent, as a "vaccine". Like what DinoNavarre posted in the satire from the "Senator". I heard they were trying to "inoculate" the bats. I also heard the practices at that lab were known to be sloppy.

In any case, mad science directed by the Experts™ and the Sad Little Man.

Anything interesting they made in the meantime would go to the bio-weapons groups. Nobody would be the wiser.

This virus patent stuff is too hard to understand. How could a virus be patented? Just because they examined it?
