Ever work on a duff fire? Hose them down forever and they keep smoldering. Only had one get into the trees in Berners Bay and all it did was burn moss.

Had a chance to learn how to drive a dozer for fire crews. There was a big hotshot fatality about that time. I passed. Wish I had learned, but I did learn how to use a backhoe and then went on to get our own small excavator. Dozers are a different animal. Fires down south are a different animal - as they are up north. My dad actually SET fires for a summer with the FS in Idaho. Backfires. I should have asked him more about it.

I was in the woods a lot, but also in the office. Recreation department. Fun for everyone, not just us.

BTW, I couldn't see the photo you posted. Big images seem to take a while to transfer to SI. I'm still getting the hang of it. Saw a guy posted an animated GIF. I need to learn how to do that. I like the old school SI though.
