It isn't just the opening ceremony. It's the whole thing. I thought I'd go mad trying to watch the last summer Olympics. You'd think at least they'd let us see a little SPORT. But no, instead we got smarmy "profiles" of athetes, and we were NEVER denied a shot of someone crying, especially if it happened to be a guy. AND we got to see these same irrelevant moments AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. Never mind that there were other competitions going on at the time.

And of course it was made clear that the only entrants of any importance--with a very few exceptions--were the Americans. I remember past Olympics: it was interesting to see weird sports, interesting to hear the national anthems of other countries. Well, I suppose the TV powers-that-be have decided that's not what the Olympics are about. No. They're about schmaltz and jingoism and selling athletic shoes.
