China’s outstanding foreign debt, including US dollar debt, reached US$2.4 trillion in 2020 Where is China going to get the $$$ to repay all of that USD debt as their property developers, and expensive transportation projects, financed with USD denominated debt are going into bankruptcy? What happens to all of those non-Chinese investors who loaned them these USD when they can no longer kick the can down the road and they are forced to write off those loans as non-performing defaults? This HAS to have an impact on their bottom lines, as well as their ability to keep lending,. These folks put their $$$ in China, attracted by the high rates of interest, but now they've got a major problem and we're looking at hundreds of Billions, if not Trillions, in debt destruction.. Debt destruction = Dollar destruction = global USD shortage = USD strengthening as supply of USD dries up. That strikes me as Global liquidity crunch even more in the offing as China focusing on paying IT'S OWN lenders back FIRST, leaving Foreigners flapping in the breeze (though they're saying that they won't). I just don't see any other recourse for them, especially if they want to avoid social unrest within China as family fortunes are utterly wiped out. Hope that helps explain my thinking. scmp.com Hawk
